A huge surge in early voting across key states appears to be helping the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Excerpt:
"If there's a last minute surge because of some event to the trailing candidate, well, the train has left for an awful lot of people these days," said Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Centre, which carries out election polls.

I voted yesterday and I concur.

Me too.  NOTHING that could happen would make me change my mind about having Palin that close to power.

There's no early voting in Michigan, or I would have already. :)

My wife and I voted last week by mail here in California, both for Barack and both NO on Prop 8.

If you can vote early, do it. If you can vote by mail, do it. Don't wait for the last minute when some GOP dirty trickster may find a way to try to deny your vote at the last second. If something happens and they say you can't vote on election day then talk to a poll watcher and ask them to help. Most of them are lawyers and are there to see you get your right to vote. Or call your local political party office and they'll help. If they can't help then demand a provisional ballot, which by law they must give you and vote that way. Don't let the GOP steal this election like they did in 2000 and 2004. Don't let the GOP stop you from your right to vote. Never again!

Your wife lied. She voted for McCain Palin. She just TOLD you she voted for Obama like you wanted her to. By the way, do you agree with letting the armed forces vote be counted this time?

I'm heading downtown (Cleveland) on the shiny new BRT line today.  Will report back!

So far about 9% of Cuyahoga County's million-plus registered voters have cast their ballots in early voting.  If I remember correctly, 100,000 vote-by-mail (formerly absentee) ballots have been sent out, too.

Voted!  It was a nice day, the entire transit system was free in celebration of a new line, so people were out! Estimates are that some 3,000 people came down to the Cuyahoga Co. Board of Elections today. My identity was verified, I filled out an optical scanner ballot, sealed it in an envelope & put it in the ballot box.  My understanding is there is no scanning before nov 4.

The crowd was easily 90% Obama. As it happened two young McCainers were behind me, smirking about ACORN and such things. I relied on discretion being th better part of valor & kept my big trap shut for a change.

i voted early today..... for barack obama

but in contrast to donald snyder   i voted yes on prop 8

i mean....i believe same sex marriages should be legal....but im worried about where it ends...i dont want my kids taught that homosexuality is natural....i just dont.   But i have absolutely no problem with gays or gays getting married....

just the inclusion of homosexuality in the education system, and the adoption of young children by homosexual parents.....im sure they love the kid....but that kind of confusion

Does that mean you think they're better off in the foster care system? 'Cause there aren't really enough parents to go around.

I'm not in California, but was education part of the question for Prop 8? It sounds like it completely eliminates the possibility of gay marriage. I hate to see rights removed from people in any state's constitution- the point is usually to restrict the rights of government and their ability to interfere in our lives.

I'm not sure I get the 'confusion' angle either- the kids are either gay or they're not. There's about a 94% chance they're not, so what's confusing about telling them that people who are committed to each other get tax and a few other benefits from the state?

I voted early here in Georgia a few weeks ago, but for some reason they forgot to cram the ballot with the usual get-out-the-Republican-vote divisive issue. The only interesting part is the suspense of wondering if the Diebold machine counted my vote correctly.

The success or defeat of Prop 8 will have absolutely no effect q whatsoever on what is being taught in public schools. The proponents have put out a scare campaign that it would, but that is a complete lie. It won't. What will happen if Prop 8 passes is that it will take away a civil and human right from Gay people.

Im voting the traditional way.......

I live on an island so our lines won't be so bad and my polling place is 2 mins from my house. If I lived in town I would have definitely have voted by now.

So, is everyone ready to be a witness to the rebirth of a nation?
