Pact on Debates Will Let McCain and Obama Spar

advertisement

At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Excerpt:

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

Why is this woman being coddled? It's embarrassing. She's running for the second highest position in the land. This is just shameful.

Redruby-

Nah it's not shameful, it's smart on the Republicans part to do whatever they can to minimize Palin's exposure and the certain damage to McCain's chances that would ensue from a real debate between her and Senator Biden. In the end though, I don't believe that the vice presidential debate will mean much to anyone. I will watch it just for the fun of it however.

At this point, most people know who Palin is and what she's about.

-She lies
-She holds grudges and is not above using her office to retaliate on her enemies
-She is sneaky and conniving and seeks ways to side step law and policy

Basically, she's beginning to remind me of the doting wife that in reality is praying for the old geezer to kick the bucket so she can walk away with the insurance. At this point, I'll just sit back and wait for the Palin fanboi's to take the bait I've just laid out there. I had hoped John McCain would make VP pick that challenged my thoughts on this election and he did that for sure. Problem is he just didn't do it in the way I was expecting. I had hoped to have a real decision to make in November but seems John McCain is pandering and desparate at this point.

Whats shameful is that half the country believes that a person who needs coddling is qualified to be in the second highest position in the land.

It is absolutely unbelievable that the campaign committee would change the rules due to the inexperience of one of the running mates. Isn't that one of the goals here - to truly pit these 2 possible 2nd highest job in this country candidates against each other to see get to the bottom of the matter and see who is more capable? Before it's even begun - her OWN party thinks she can't handle the situation under the regular rules. Will there be "adjusted rules" to compensate for her inexperience if she should (God forbid) take office in her place - a heartbeat away from the actual Presidency?
